Kingyo jam
The beauty of kimono…the subtle sensuality of bare skin that peeks from the neck and hem.
The inconveniences placed on a kimono wearer restore the inferent poise kimono-clad Japanese women used to possess, the spell modern-day hearts and bodies of Japan seem to have forgotten, thanks to today;s conveniences.
The 2 kingyo JAM dancers have continually worn their kimonos for the last 3years.
And when the obi(sash)comes loose, they abruptly climb on or throw each other into space, tangle, and flow like a river, free at last from the restrictive gliring steps of noh required of kimonos.
Lift inspired by the ancient Japanese martial art of Kobujutsu, their relentlessness taken for granted, with in-sync breaths.
The choreographer matter-of-factly builds them into a piece….
Kingyo jam.
